Price / Prix: $299.95 The Ortovox D3 is the newest offering for the 2007 season. The D3 is a fully digital, triple antenna avalanche beacon, with a multiple burial indicator. It has a search range of up to 70 meters and is especially easy to use. The D3 is the perfect avalanche beacon for any beginner caught in an avalanche rescue situation.
A powerful microprocessor enables the Ortovox D3 to make full use of
its triple antenna technology and relay its results quickly and
precisely to the user. The D3's signals are displayed as both units of
distance (meters) and as directional arrows. Distance readings are
displayed by 2 numeric LED's. Directional readings by way of three easy
to read LED arrows. Both sets of digital displays are easy to read even
under poor weather conditions and the pressures of an avalanche rescue.
When using any beacon a phenomenon known as "dead spots" can occur
during the pinpointing of a buried victim. In these dead spots a beacon
receives usable signals. The triple antenna technology of the Ortovox
D3 almost completely eliminates dead spots and the user always receives
a clear signals from the buried beacon. One of the primary causes of
dead spots occurs when a beacon is buried at a vertical angle. The
triple antenna technology works no matter what orientation the victim's
beacon is situated.
The D3 operates on the world-wide standardized frequency of 457 kHz and
is compatible with all beacons that work on the same frequency. It
requires two easily available AA batteries to work.
The D3 looks like a traditional Ortovox beacon, and functions in a
similar capacity to the Ortovox X1 and Ortovox F1 avalanche beacons. Unlike the X1 the D3 is a fully
digital avalanche transceiver and has a display indicator to show
multiple victims within its range.
